Security Activities

Central Reserve Police Force is the largest Central Armed Police Force of India and is an impressive past and an exciting present. The background is filled with the numerous "SAGAs OF BRAVERY" which are inspirational and serve as guiding the principles of this force.Since its inception on 1939, it's gone through a lot of changes, starting from providing aid in the merger of smaller Princely States into Indian Union and the handling of the Partition War. It is currently engaged in an entire guerrilla conflict in the Maoist affected zones. The CRPF has had to fight some tough battles and stood in solidarity with the Army during war. Ten brave soldiers from CRPF gained martyrdom during the time that Chinese troops intruded into Indian Territory and attacked its patrol at Hot springs (Laddakh) on 21 October, 1959.Two CRPF companies deployed at Sardar Post in Kutch repulsed an attack by an army brigade from the Pakistan Army on 9th April 1965. The battle at Sardar Post is regarded as the most important battle ever to be fought in the history of Police forces. In the front of internal security, it foiled Parliament attack on the 13th of December, 2001 and Ayodhya attack on July 27th, 2005.

CRPF also played a pivotal role in curbing militancy in Punjab in the 1980s and the insurgency throughout Tripura in the 1990s. In 2001, based on the recommendation of the group of Ministers, CRPF was declared the top security force in the nation. Today, more than one third of the force's personnel are deployed in left-wing extremist regions to fight the left-wing extremism. The CRPF played a major role in eradicating the naxalism from West Bengal and from Kaimur and Rohtas regions of Bihar. The naxals were wiped out from Saranda forest in Jharkhand which was a major base area for them. Despite scattered deployments CRPF neutralized the top maoist chief Kishanji in 2011 and also made major forays into so called"liberated" naxal areas such as Saranda ( 2011), Saranda (in 2011),Maad (in 2012) and Cut-off Area (in the year 2012), Burha Pahad (in 2012), Silger & Pedia (in 2013).

CRPF also undertook rescue and relief operations during numerous natural disasters, such as Orissa Super Cyclone (1999), Gujarat Earthquake (2001), Tsunami (2004) and J&K Earthquake (2005). CRPF has proven its worth in several overseas UNdeployments like Srilanka (1987), Haiti (1995), Kosovo (2000) & Liberia (Women Contingent) (2007) also.
